Ottawa and Franklin County are home to many attractions. The Plaza Cinema is the oldest continuously operating theater in the country — and possibly the world! It has been showing films since 1905 in the same building in downtown Ottawa. The cinema has been completely restored to its original art deco character but with up-to-date sound and digital equipment. A memorabilia museum, featuring original scripts, posters, props from movies and more, opened in May 2014. The Old Depot Museum is a wonderful example of repurposing an 1888 two-story passenger train depot that served Ottawa until the early 1960s. Richmond, Appanoose, Williamsburg and soon Wellsville have community museums that showcase the local history of their towns and townships with an array of historical artifacts that are treasures to each community.
